The mission of the North Carolina Maritime Museum at Southport is to collect, preserve, and interpret material culture pertinent to the maritime history of the Lower Cape Fear region.
Located on the historic grounds of Fort Johnston, the museum begins with exhibits on the first mariners of the Cape Fear and takes visitors through the colonial period, Civil War, World War II, the pinnacle of fisheries in Southport and the storms that left an indelible mark on this region. Make certain to check out our pages on classes, events, History, Literature, and Resources to learn more.
The museum also has programs for large and small school groups, homeschool groups, and civic organizations. Call the museum to schedule a tour or program at 910-477-5151.
Information will be added regularly, so grab a PFD and get ready for an adventure in maritime history!
